The Increase of Asbestos Cancer
In the United States and industrialized Western civilizations, asbestos has been used in all sorts of building materials, but some industrial fields rise to the top of the list. Workers in the following industries are found to be more vulnerable than others to asbestos cancer: construction, auto mechanics, electricians, plumbers, industrial workers, and insulation specialists.
Secondary exposure to cancer-causing asbestos particles is another point of concern. This is a situation which occurs when workers exposed to asbestos fibers ‘bring their work home with them’. Employees exposed to asbestos fibers bring home the cancer-causing elements on their skin and clothes and unknowingly expose their family.
Due to the demographics for the industries which heavily contribute to the list of asbestos cancer cases; it can be found that men are more prone to this type of disease. Although asbestos is largely attributed to forms of lung cancer, it can also be a contributing factor to heart problems and stroke. Since symptoms are slow to develop, patients often disregard the signs and delay seeking medical attention for many months. Early detection of asbestos cancer is extremely important and anyone suspecting that they have symptoms should seek immediate medical diagnosis.
