Man in Tennessee is Seeking Asbestos Compensation

A 94 year old man in Tennessee by the name of Rupert Ellington is seeking asbestos compensation amounting to $2.5 million from his former employer.  Ellington has filed charges with his former employer stating that they have caused him to get sick from asbestos.

Asbestos is a well known carcinogen that causes diseases such as lung cancer, asbestos cancer (mesothelioma), asbestosis, and many other respiratory illnesses.

Ellington claims that his former employer - the Illinois Central Railroad - as well as the BNSF is responsible for illness which he is suffering and claims it is due to asbestos exposure.  Ellington states that while working for his former employer between the years of 1950s to the 1970s, he was exposed to asbestos. Asbestos Funding for Two Massachusetts Cities

The cities of North Brookfield and Worchester Massachusetts will be receiving funds for asbestos cleanup.  Amounting to $200,000, this grant will come from the federal government to help clean up a property that was once called Aztec Industries/Asbestos Textile.  This property is located on S. Common St in Massachusetts and was used until around the mid 1980s for producing products that contained asbestos – one product being fabric. The goal is to make the property suitable for lease and open up new jobs for the local workers.

Asbestos was once used without governmental regulations since scientists did not know that it caused cancer.  Asbestos cancer is now a well known result from asbestos exposure.  Once asbestos fibers are airborne, they can become lodged in various membranes throughout her bodies. These fibers get stuck in mesothelial cells and cause various illnesses.  The most common diseases caused by asbestos exposure include asbestos cancer (mesothelioma) and asbestosis. (more…)
