Asbestosis increases the chance of developing various types of lung cancer and causes extreme shortness of breath for the sufferer.
Asbestosis cancer is when the asbestos fibers become lodged in the lungs or abdomen and cause cancer. This type of cancer is also known as mesothelioma. Mesothelial cells lined the lungs and abdomen and form a protective layer. Asbestos fibers get stuck in these mesothelial cells and after a long period of time (20-50 years), can cause asbestosis cancer. This type of cancer is very aggressive.
