Asbestos Jobs
There are many asbestos jobs where people are exposed to this known carcinogen. In the 1970s, governmental asbestos regulations were put in place to reduce the amount of asbestos that people are allowed to be exposed to in the workplace. Now the chances of becoming exposed to cancer-causing levels of asbestos are extremely low.
Some asbestos jobs include:
- Construction workers
- Demolition workers
- Installation workers
- Ship wrecking yard workers
- Automotive industry workers
- Manufacturing of asbestos containing products (floor tiles, installation, building materials etc.)
- Air sampling workers
- Clearance testing
- Asbestos analysis
- Asbestos fiber counting
- Management of asbestos
- Asbestos surveying
- Asbestos consulting
- Asbestos removal
These asbestos jobs expose employees to carcinogenic fibers on a daily basis. Governmental regulations require that organizations, businesses, companies, etc. follow specific guidelines to allow under a certain amount of exposure to be experienced by workers in asbestos jobs. The limit of asbestos exposure during an 8 hour workday is 0.1 fiber per cubic centimeter of air and cannot exceed 1.0 fiber per cubic cm of air as averaged over a sampling period of 30 minutes.
These asbestos regulations are in place to protect workers in asbestos jobs. The employers are required by law to abide by these limits. There are companies that do fail to adhere to these regulations and have been taken to court by employees pressing charges for exposing them to unlawful amounts of asbestos at their job.
If great precaution is taken during the day to reduce the chances of breathing in the asbestos fibers, it is unlikely that mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases will ever arise if working in an asbestos job.
